These Italian Sausage Sandwiches are some of my favorite sandwiches! These have options to make them paleo, primal, or keto!
Paleo and Gluten Free Buns
You have 2 options for the buns, and the best part is that both contain only 2 ingredients each!
The chaffle recipe is considered keto or primal. For keto, this means they're low carb and/or high fat. Primal is considered paleo but including dairy. So these are gluten free, soy free, sugar free, and grain free.
The potato bun is a good option for you if you eat paleo but have to avoid dairy. It's simply made out of potato and egg, that's it! You could add some spice if you'd like as well.
The chaffle recipe did NOT come from me, it's an internet sensation right now in the keto world, and I have no idea who it originated from. The potato waffles I just adapted from several waffle recipes on Pinterest. These buns are SO versatile, and I love that they fit many food plans or lifestyles you choose. Here's the EASY , 2 ingredient recipe!
If you were missing sandwiches and bread when you switched to paleo, definitely check out either of these buns!
Hamburgers can become a thing again while paleo. Make some pulled pork sandwiches or buffalo chicken sandwiches. Tuna melts would be delicious too! Recreate your favorite subway sandwich with all the sauces and toppings!
Waffle Maker
If you need a waffle maker they're all over Target and Amazon. I used the mini version, so they are perfectly round and in the shape of hamburger buns. I love that it's small and doesn't take up much space at all!
The only con is that you can only make 1 slice of the bun at a time, so it is not always as fast as I'd like it. Still each side only takes about 2 minutes, so if you make the exact recipe it won't take long, unless you double or triple it then it adds up.
Paleo Mayonnaise
Try out my Whole30 mayo recipe if you're wanting to avoid the soy and sugar in traditional mayo. It's foolproof and super simple. It ALWAYS emulsifies if the instructions are followed, and can be taken down to 2 ingredients only if desired!
I also like that the mayonnaise is yeast free too. There's nothing necessarily wrong with yeast, but for yeast sensitive people like myself, it's nearly impossible to find store bought condiments that are yeast free. This means homemade is the way to go, and you can make this recipe as plain or flavorful as you like!
Add 1 tablespoon of curry powder for a curry mayonnaise. Feeling spicy? Add 1 tablespoon of sriracha hot sauce! Limitless options here.
